Over the past few months, Ross Eye Institute has been busy at work at its Northtowns office in Amherst, working to complete a series of renovations and remodeling projects to deliver a new, enhanced patient experience. The work has recently completed, and as of Sept. 1, the updated space is now open to the public.

Renovation work touched nearly every area of the Amherst office, adding new exam lanes and patient work-up lanes to help facilitate a more effective flow of patients. A new front reception desk was also added, helping to direct new and existing patients through the check-in and check-out procedures. These additions focused on working to streamline patient appointments, helping to keep patients on schedule for their visit.

In addition, all brand-new equipment was installed throughout the facility, replacing older machines and diagnostic tools and providing updated technology and increased capabilities for screening and testing during patient eye exams. The project also added two new rooms – a new laser room and a new surgical consulting room – as well as a new imaging suite, allowing physicians to take more detailed and comprehensive images of a patient’s eyes.

“This work was much needed, and months in the making,” said Tom Huebsch, CFO/COO of Ross Eye Institute. “The newly renovated space welcomes our patients, creating a more inviting and warmer environment while delivering new technology and spaces that allow us to provide an improved experience and most comprehensive care in Western New York.”

While the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic caused some delays in the project, it also provided an opportunity for the Ross to adapt designs during construction. This made it easier to adjust the flow of the lobby and patient areas to account for social distancing needs, install protective barriers and include other features designed to protect guests and staff. Waiting areas have been spaced so that visitors are seated six feet apart, while plexiglass screens at the reception desk provide a barrier between patients and staff to help keep everyone healthy and safe.

Patients can schedule a visit to the renovated Northtowns office now, with appointments available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call the scheduling line at 716-881-7900 or request an appointment online today.
